The Volkswagen ID.4 is slated for a full redesign in 2027, which will be a welcome improvement over the last reengineering that came out in 2024.When the ID.4 was refreshed in early 2024, it gained improved range and a new infotainment system similar to that of the ID.Buzz, and we expect these features to remain through the redesign. However, according to Autocar, the newest model ID.4 will wear a new face and have more physical controls than the current iteration. Outside, we expect to see a more rugged-looking EV with more body cladding and a revised front fascia and lights. We also expect some new color schemes to arrive for 2027.Inside, the redesign should makeover the current interior of the ID.4. We're hoping to see a slightly updated look, but think it's unlikely the vehicle will get an upgrade to its standard tech features. These already include a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, voice recognition, four USB ports, seven audio speakers, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a wireless charging pad as standard.The current ID.4's interior features a modern, high-tech design with simple lines, few physical controls, a small digital instrument cluster, a central touchscreen positioned on top of the dash, and ambient lighting. While the current ID.4 has some physical controls on the dashboard and steering wheel, they’re all touch-capacitive controls that can be tricky to use, which is why we're expecting updated, easier-to-use controls for the 2027 model. In fact, according to Autocar, VW technical development boss Kai Grünitz says the vehicle should usher in the return of the round volume knob for sound control. Volkswagen's compact crossover EV currently comes with three powertrain options. We are not sure what updates to the powertrain we will see, but Autocar indicates the ID.4 will benefit from efficiency and performance gains seen in other recently launched models, like Europe's ID.7. We're hoping to see an updated range for the vehicle in light of that information. Currently, you can choose from the base single motor option paired with a 62-kWh battery pack and rear-wheel drive, a boosted single motor that provides 282-hp and has a larger 77-kWh battery pack, or a dual motor version with an 82-kWh battery pack.2026 Volkswagen ID.4 Pricing & Release DateWith a full redesign, the 2027 VW ID.4 should start with a higher price than the current model on sale. The 2025 ID.4 pricing ranges $36,420 to $53,720 with destination.
